A Note from Aisling...
Dear Session Friends,
I started The Groton Session to carry on a great Irish tradition in my community. Originally from Dublin, I love to go to sessions during my frequent visits to Ireland. Getting together with friends to share Irish music, songs, stories and humour keeps me connected to Ireland and Irish culture.
The inspiration, encouragement, advice and support of my family and friends have made the vision of The Groton Session come to life. A special thank you to Raymond Henry and Steve Brown who helped me get the session off the ground and keep it going for all these years. Thank you also to John Edfors who has taken on the week to week coordinating. The session has moved homes four times since our first Wednesday in Groton in October of 2006. We began our journey in Groton at The Stage Coach Inn which sadly burned to the ground in 2011 , In 2008, we temporarily moved to J.P.O Hanlon’s Irish Pub in Ayer and onwards to The Bull Run Restaurant in Shirley for the next 2 years. In 2011, we moved to The Billiard’s Café in Ayer where we currently enjoy our weekly sessions. Every year we have celebrated the life and soul of The Groton Session and all our wonderful members with a cake and a party. It continues to be a magical journey.
Thank you to everyone who helps organize and make it a success and to all who come on Wednesdays to play and listen.
